Motif No. 1 Day Commemorative Poster

Rockport Festivals is excited to announce that this year's Motif No.1 Day festival commemorative poster features the work of Lawrence Martin-Bittman, represented locally by The Art Nook, located at 58 Bearskin Neck in downtown Rockport. Posters will be available for sale at Rockport Festivals online store or at The Art Nook, with part of the proceeds to benefit Rockport Festivals programming. A huge thank you to the artist and to the owners of The Art Nook for donating the use of the image for this year's poster!

Partner With an Artist (PWA), seARTS’ signature artist grant program, provides grants to artists to create new work -- in any medium: visual, performing, multimedia art -- in partnership with local businesses.  PWA’s focus is to celebrate the arts, strengthen partnerships with the business community, and to promote a vibrant and culturally rich economy on Cape Ann.

You’re invited! Join us to view the artwork of local painters and printmakers Ben MacAdam, Donna Therrien, and Rocky Delforge at Pleasant Street Tea Co. on Friday May 11th from 6-8 pm! The tea shop is located at 7 Pleasant Street, Gloucester, MA. and will cater food and drinks for the opening. The show will be up until the end of June.  Local musician Brad Byrd will also play a few songs also during the opening.

Rockport Art News: Check it Out!

• Local printmaker & artist Rocky Delforge is featured on Heather Atwood's blog: a must-read! Check it out HERE.

• Also, tomorrow, April 21st, Sarah Kelly of The Roving Home will open a pop up shop & show at the Tusinski Gallery at 2 Main Street in Rockport. The show features a recycled theme in conjunction with Earth Day. Opening party is on Saturday from 6 to 8pm so stop by!

• And a reminder that artist & sculptor Nina Samoiloff will be creating a sculpture at Toad Hall Bookstore on Sunday April 22nd at 1pm in honor of Earth Day and the 40th birthday of Toad Hall, an environmentally-minded business if there ever was one.

Rockport Sculptor Jenna Powell

the work of sculptor Jenna Powell, based on the Paint Factory.

Rockport sculptor Jenna Powell is showing at Lesley University from February 16th to April 16th. The work in her show is based on the castings from the iconic Tarr & Wonson Paint Factory in Gloucester, with results both aesthetically and historically important. From Jenna:

I began the Tarr and Wonson Paint Manufactory project in Gloucester Massachusetts with the assumption that the remaining historic structures would be of primary interest, not the story of paint discovered within. Inside, multi-colored traces of history are frozen in varying stages of liquidity: flowing, dripping, oozing, splattering, lumping and layering. The paint evokes the memory of mass production recorded throughout and between multiple stories, floorboards, ceilings, and walls.

Eugene Quinn : Light and Sea Exhibit

Rockport is excited to have artist Eugene Quinn for the month of December showing in a special exhibit at the Thistle Gallery right on Main Street!  Don't miss the opportunity to speak with Eugene and view his work, part of our storied tradition of Cape Ann painters working and showing in Rockport.

The 2010 Light and Sea Exhibit will be on display throughout the month, with an Exhibit Reception taking place on Saturday, December 11th from 4 to 9pm.  Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 10-6, Sunday 12-5.  To reserve a painting or schedule an appointment, call 617-894-1552.
